  14. FlashROM is a tool to update the flash ROM of a SCSI or
  15. ATAPI drive. At the moment it supports Plextor and Yamaha
  16. CD writers. A complete list is given below, together with
  17. remarks about supporting other hardware. Any SCSI or ATAPI
  18. device can be used as long as it is compliant to the Amiga
  19. SCSI direct standard.

  25. shall be held responsible for any damages or losses, direct
  26. or consequential, resulting from the use, or inability to
  27. use the software. This applies even if the authors have been

  30. FlashROM is copyright 1998-2001 by Patrick Ohly. Copying and
  31. usage are allowed for free as long as no profit is made in
  32. doing so. Commercial distribution or distribution together
  33. with commercial products or commercial usage of FlashROM
  34. require the permission of the author.

  37. MakeCD + Availability of FlashROM
  38. ---------------------------------
  39. FlashROM was brought to you by the author who also wrote the
  40. SCSI, IO and GUI part of MakeCD, an "excellent" (Amiga Format
  41. #112) CD writing software for the Amiga. In contrast to one
  42. of our competitors I have decided not to restrict the usage
  43. of this tool to the users of our CD writing software.

  45. MakeCD does not need such an exclusive feature to be worth
  46. its money and I don't want anybody to buy it just to update his
  47. or her drive. Of course you are welcome to have a look at
  48. MakeCD in case that you should not know or use it already. An
  49. only slightly restricted demo of the current version is
  50. available at "http://makecd.core.de/". You will also find the
  51. current version of FlashROM there.

  53. I also believe that updating the firmware of drives is not one
  54. of the tasks a CD writing software should take care of. I regret
  55. that our competitor was not able to make their tool available
  56. to the Amiga community for free because of costs they had and
  57. still would have and because of their liability in case of a
  58. damage. I understand their objections and even though I decided
  59. to go a different way I share them, so once again in plain
  60. English: FLASHROM COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY OR SUPPORT!

  98.    supported. Since Craig Campbell left Yamaha I have been unable
  99.    to get access to the required information and drives. Should
  100.    any Yamaha representative like to change that, then he is more

  104. Support for other drives
  105. ------------------------

  107. Here are my preconditions for adding support of other drives:
  108.  
  109. 1. The vendor supports the implementation by providing the
  110.    documentation of the required commands.
  111. 2. I won't be held liable for any damage.
  112. 3. I get at least one free example of the hardware.
  113. 4. The hardware should be fairly well spreaded.
  114.  
  115. Item 1 and 2 are absolutely necessary - especially analyzing other
  116. software to learn about the required commands is out of question. The
  117. other items however are negotiable: if someone is willing to pay me,
  118. such offers are welcome. I have to live on something in the end, and
  119. eating hardware isn't very healthy ;-)
